MoBook Club Discussion: What is the number one enemy of spiritual formation? Exhaustion! We are living beyond our means, both financially and physically. As a result we are neglecting sleep. 1. Were you able to practice the discipline of sleep this week? If so, describe what you did and how you felt about it. 2. What, if anything, did you learn about God or yourself through the exercise?

    Unfortunately, I did the opposite of this soul training exercise this week… Two of my three boys were sick this week. We did a whole week of partial nights of sleep. The anti-sleep exercise really demonstrated how fluctuations in my energy levels affect my spiritual rhythms. When I am overtired my devotional time suffers. It is much easier to crawl back into bed when a quiet moment comes. I know God’s grace covers these experiences but it was ironic that it worked to show me how much rest plays into my spiritual formation.
